Shuttlers Dharmamer, Kanzarkar qualify for main draw

Kaushal Dharmamer and Kabir Kanzarkar registered victories in the qualifying rounds to move to the men's singles main draw at the Tata Open India International Challenge badminton tournament here today.
The other qualifiers for the main draw scheduled for tomorrow are Pratul Joshi, Utkarsh Arora, Amey Joshi, Sachin Rawat and Siddharath Thakur.
Dharmamer breezed past Ameya Oak (21-10, 21-13) in a game that lasted less than 30 minutes, while Kanzarkar got the better of Nigel D'Sa in a gruelling three-game match which lasted for an hour at the Cricket Club of India.
Dharmamer will face Sameer Verma and Kanzarkar battle it out with Gaurav Venkat in the main draw.
Also, joining them in the main draw will be Sachin Rawat, who bounced back after losing in the first game (19-21), by winning the second and third game (21-15, 21-19), against the second seed in the qualifying rounds, Ashish Sharma.
In men's doubles, the top-seeded duo of the qualifying rounds, K Nandagopal and Arjun Kumar Reddy Malgari, defeated Abhidnya Sawant and Prasad Shetty in two straight games in Round 2 (21-18, 21-19).
In another match, Bikash Shrestha and Ratnajit Tamang from Nepal lost to Kabir Kanzarkar and Akshay Raut (21-14, 21-18).
In mixed doubles, Shlok Ramachandran and J Meghana registered an easy win over Dinesh Chaudhry and Ritu Vinayak in two straight games (21-5, 21-6), while Chirag Shetty and Kuhoo Garg had to sweat it out to beat Jagadish Yadav and Varsha V Belawadi (20-22, 21-12, 21-15).
