A sub-inspector of police was caught by the vigilance sleuths while accepting bribe in Odisha's Jajpur district, official sources said today.
Kusamani Bej, sub-inspector (SI) of police posted at Panikoili police station was caught by the vigilance sleuths for demanding and accepting bribe last evening. Bej was taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 from one Amulya Kumar Das of Chhotaraipur to help out the latter in a land dispute related case, the sources said.
The vigilance sleuths arrested Bej when he was accepting the money at Panikoili bazaar. Das had come to Panikoili police station and met investigating officer (IO) Bej regarding his case. Bej allegedly demanded Rs 5000, but Das agreed to pay Rs 2000 for the same, they said.
After arrest of Bej, the vigilance team raided the Panikoili police station.
This is the second such incident just within three days in the district. A sub-inspector of Binjharpur police station Prafulla Kumar Sahu was caught by vigilance sleuths on Friday while accepting Rs 5,000 bribe from one Rama Chandra Rout of Ranapur to finalise a case that was registered against the latter.
