Delhi police vigilance department today booked a sub-inspector and a head constable in a bribery case in Malviya Nagar in south Delhi, after it received a complaint through their recently launched WhatsApp helpine.
SI Gopi Ram of Malviya Nagar Police Station, and Head Constable Rajbir Singh of AATS South District were booked for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 15,000 last year from a man who had a dispute with his female neighbour over an issue of car parking, police said.
Ram threatened the man that he would arrest him for 'eve-teasing' even though the man told the SI that he was trying to stop the woman who was allegedly deflating a tyre of his car parked near her house.
Ram allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 to settle the matter.
The man later laid a trap and asked HC Rajbir Singh, known to him to talk to the SI on his behalf over phone which was on recording mode. The conversation between the man, SI Gopi Ram and Head Constable Rajbir, agreeing to the bribe settlement of Rs 15,000, was recorded.
The man paid the amount to Ram, and today sent the audio recording to the vigilance department, following which a case has been registered against the duo and the investigation in the matter is on, police said.
