"After getting a complaint we ordered an inquiry into the incident and the action was taken yesterday based on the report," Koraput Superintendent of Police C S Meena said today.
Gangadhar Haraka of Jaguguda village had on Friday complained that the sub-inspector, Prem Kumar Jena, summoned him, his wife and son to the police station on April 26 and allegedly thrashed them. They had been summoned following a complaint filed by his daughter-in-law over a family dispute.
In a memorandum to Odisha Human Rights Commission, secretary of home department and district SP, Haraka alleged that the sub-inspector injured his wife by kicking her with his boot and demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe to settle the case.
Naik visited the village on Sunday and recorded statement of the victims and villagers. Medical examination of the victim was also carried out.
