The elephant was given nearly 20 bottles of glucose water mixed with medicines after being spotted lying unconscious last evening at Periya Thadagam area on the city outskirts.
However, the pachyderm was still lying and was unable to stand up though its condition was stable, forest department sources said.
Besides medicines, it was being fed sugarcane, rice, banana, jaggery and apple. Also, water was being sprayed to prevent dehydration.
It was suspected that the elephant was suffering from some stomach related ailment, they said.
