Sify Technologies Thursday said it plans to commission a data centre in the city while Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) said it will invest Rs 120 crore in Kolkata in one of its largest single project.

Both the announcements were made at 'Infocom 2018' which began on Thursday.

Sify has taken 50,000 square feet on lease at the IT park in New Town to set up the data centre, a fast growing revenue stream for the company.

We are setting up a 50,000 square feet data centre in Kolkata which will be inaugurated in February. What we as service providers can do is provide the necessary toolsets, said Kamal Nath, CEO, Sify Technologies.

He added that steps like setting up data centre and making cloud accessible are essential building blocks for digital transformation for companies.

Moreover, recent changes in public policy on data protection regulations in India and domiciling of data in the country of origin are key demand drivers of enterprises looking to use data centres in the country.
