The Election Commission today announced by-election to the Sikandara Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh on December 21.
However, there was no mention of the two vacant Lok Sabha seats in the state -- Gorakhpur, now represented by Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath, and Phulpur, which was held by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
The Sikandara seat in Kanpur Dehat district fell vacant after sitting BJP member Mathura Prasad Pal died on July 22 after a prolonged illness.
The notification will be issued on November 27.
The last date of filing nominations is December 4 and the scrutiny will be held on the following day. The last date for withdrawal is December 7, the EC said in a release.
Polling will be held on December 21 and counting of votes will be done on December 24.
Days after being elected to the state legislative council, Adityanath and Maurya had resigned as Lok Sabha members on September 21.
Adityanath was sworn in as Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Maurya as deputy chief minister in March after the BJP won the state polls with a massive majority.
