The BJP today claimed that a young girl, belonging to the minority Sikh community, was attacked by two masked men riding a motorcycle at the Tral bus stand in Kashmir, and appealed to Governor N N Vohra to ensure that the miscreants were apprehended immediately and punished severely.

A BJP spokesperson said the girl, a student of Islamic University of Science and Technology and resident of Gandhpora Tral, was attacked yesterday morning when she was waiting at Tral bus stand to board a bus for the university.

When contacted, a police officer in Srinagar said that no such incident has been reported to the police so far.

"BJP has taken a very serious note of the attack on a young girl belonging to the Sikh community at Tral in south Kashmir and we condemn it," the party's state unit spokesperson Anil Gupta said in a statement here.

The attack was an attempt by the radicalised segment to scare away the members of the minority Sikh community in Kashmir, he claimed.

"An attempt was made to stab her also. The girl was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where from she was discharged later and returned home", he said.

"The girl is so scared and terrified that she is not even willing to give any statement to the police," he said.

The administration should ensure the safety of the minorities and take stern measures to prevent any form of harassment to them, Gupta said.
