A call for Punjab bandh on November 23 was today given by 'jathedar' (head priest) of Akal Takht, who was appointed by Sikh hardliners.
Dhian Singh Mand, who was appointed Akal Takht 'jathedar' by Sikh radicals during November 10 'Sarbat Khalsa', today gave call for the shut down.
"I appeal humbly to all the Sikhs to support 'bandh' call given against the alleged hegemony and autocratic attitude of Badal government, since Badals have refused to honour all the resolutions passed during the 'Sarbat Khalsa'," Mand told reporters while being escorted to a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody till November 23.
The Sikh leader said the 'Sarbat Khalsa' was organised as per Sikh religious customs and tenets keeping in view sentiments of the community.
"But, unfortunately, Punjab government attempted to give different colour to Sarbat Khalsa to disturb peace and tranquility in the state," he said.
