"Things have normalised now. We have made huge development in normalising infrastructure and we are trying our best to ensure safety of tourists," Sikkim Tourism minister Bhim Prasad Dhungel said.

The tourism festival in Sikkim begins in February.

The number of tourists had come down to about 5.5 lakh in 2012 after the 2011 Sikkim earthquake, from about seven lakh average earlier, he said.

The natural calamity had claimed 90 lives.

"This year we are expecting about 10 lakh people to visit the state. We are here to invite people to the International Flower Show in Sikkim which will mark the beginning of the Sikkim tourism calendar," Dhungel said.

The show would be held between February 23-27 during which conferences, buyer-seller meet, exhibitions and competitions and workshops for participants would be held.

At least two lakh people for the flower show alone is expected, the minister said.

Also, he said the proposed greenfield airport at Pakyong, about 25 kilometre from capital Gangtok, was expected to be ready by 2014 and it would boost tourism further.

Private developer Punj Loyd Ltd has been allotted 197.72 hectare for the airport project.
