The articles comprising ornaments, collectively weighing 20 kgs, were stolen last night from the temple, which is located in Mehar Nagar area, they said.
According to the FIR, the chief priest of the temple came to know about the theft this morning when he entered the sanctum sanctorum to perform daily rituals, police inspector Pavan Kishore said.
Police suspect that the robbers gained the entry into the temple by breaking open the locks of the main gate and the entrance door.
Police have formed separate teams who are fanned out in the district to trace the robbers, Kishore said.
