Silver coins dating back to 1480-1862 found in Nadia

Around 37 pieces of silver coins dating back from the 15th century to 19th century have been found in Nadia district, a senior district official said today.
When a worker named Jagannath Halder was digging as part of MGNREGA work at the premises of Ram Sita temple at Mayapur Haldarpara he found the silver coins in an earthen pot yesterday, the official said.
Halder deposited the coins with the local police station.
Hearing the news about the discovery the district administration ordered stopping of the digging work.
Nadia District Magistrate P B Salim said "we have asked the Archaeological Survey of India to look in to it."
"The coins found, are marked with the years from 1480 to 1862. These are silver coins and if ASI found these are antiques, we would send them for exhibitions," Additional District Magistrate, Utpal Bhadra said.
