Tracking a firming trend overseas, silver prices rose by Rs 156 to Rs 42,350 per kg in futures trading today as traders built up fresh positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in December rose by Rs 156, or 0.37 per cent, to Rs 42,350 per kg, in a business turnover of 714 lots.
Similarly, the white metal for delivery in March 2017 gained Rs 131, or 0.30 per cent, to Rs 43,264 per kg in 32 lots.
Analysts said fresh positions created by participants amid firming trend in global markets mainly led to the rise in silver prices at futures trade.
Meanwhile, silver rose 0.34 per cent to USD 17.65 an ounce in New York in yesterday's trade.
