Silver futures on Thursday traded Rs 177 higher at Rs 44,217 per kg after speculators raised bets, driven by a firm trend overseas.

Silver contracts for December delivery rose by Rs 177, or 0.4 per cent, to Rs 44,217 per kg in a business turnover of 6,940 lots on the Multi Commodity Exchange.

Besides, the white metal to be delivered in March next year shot up by Rs 178, or 0.4 per cent, to Rs 44,909 per kg in 8,768 lots.

Analysts said widening of positions by traders in sync with a firm trend overseas for precious metals mainly influenced silver prices here.

In the international market, silver traded 0.09 per cent higher at USD 17.07 an ounce in New York.
