Silver prices on Monday soared Rs 636 to Rs 44,615 per kg in futures trade as participants widened their bets amid a firm trend in precious metal overseas.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for March delivery gained Rs 636, or 1.45 per cent, to Rs 44,615 per kg in 27 lots.
Similarly, the white metal for delivery in May was trading higher by Rs 616, or 1.39 per cent, at Rs 45,019 per kg in 8,697 lots.
Traders said fresh bets by participants in line with a firm trend in global markets mainly led to rise in silver futures.
In the international market, silver was quoting 2.75 per cent higher at USD 16.91 an ounce in New York.
