Silver prices rose by Rs 149 to Rs 40,662 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions on the back of a firming trend in precious metals overseas.
In futures trade at the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far-month December contracts traded Rs 149 or 0.37 per cent higher at Rs 40,662 per kg in business turnover of just one lot.
Likewise, the white metal for delivery in July traded higher by Rs 130 or 0.33 per cent at Rs 39,420 per kg in 880 lots.
Analysts said fresh positions created by speculators in tune with firming global trend after minutes from a Federal Reserve meeting signalled officials are unlikely to raise US interest rates at their next meeting in June, influenced silver prices at futures trade.
Meanwhile, silver gained 0.4 per cent to USD 17.19 an ounce in Singapore.
