Hanifa breathed his last at his residence here tonight, DMK sources said.
He had sung a number of Tamil Muslim devotional songs and was a leading propagandist of DMK for more than five decades.
Hailing from the pilgrim town of Nagore in Nagapattinam district, Hanifa's voice was popular among the DMK cadre.
He was a member of the now defunct Tamil Nadu Legislative Council in the early 1970s.
DMK President M Karunanidhi condoled the death of Hanifa and recalled his contribution to the growth of the party, especially through the rendering of party anthems in his unique voice.
