Sinha and Mahto reach camps in Everest expedition
Press Trust of India Jamshedpur National-level volleyball player Arunima Sinha, who had lost her one leg after being thrown off a moving train in Barielly two years ago, and Sushen Mahto of Jharkhand, have reached camp I and II respectively on their expedition to Mt Everest.
They have acclimatised well, their morale is high and are absolutely fit, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) sources said here today.
Anurima had undergone training for over a year under the guidance of Banchendri Pal, the first Indian woman to have conquered the Everest, and Mahto reached the Summit of Island Peak (Height - 6160 meters or 20,070 feet) on the morning of April 11. Further they reached Base Camp of Mt Everest on April 15 evening.
Arunima, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, was pushed out of the general compartment of Padmawati Express for resisting a chain-snatching attempt by some hoodlums while travelling from Lucknow to New Delhi on April 12, 2011. She had suffered critical injury in the right leg which was amputated later.
