The loud siren which goes off at 10 am sharp at the Central Telegraph Office (CTO) and the state secretariat to alert office-goers, would go silent from tomorrow and would now be used only for sounding alarms.
The morning alarm would now be used only for sounding warnings during emergencies like earthquake, fire and the likes and would give a voice signal in distinctive increasing and decreasing sound levels instead of a steady sound, Chief Secretary Sudripta Roy said today.
Roy was presiding over a preparatory meeting held here for conducting mock drill on disaster management at the state secretariat scheduled to be conducted on October 8.
During the mock drill, real life disaster like earthquake would be stimulated for generating awareness on disaster management, he said adding, every employee posted at the secretariat should be made aware about the activities to be carried out during rescue operations.
Various teams for awareness generation, warning, information, search, rescue, evacuation, fire fighting, alarm, space, transport management and media management have been constituted for this mock drill, Roy said.
