Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia today warned government schools to improve the quality of mid-day meal after he found it to be "very poor".
Sisodia, who also holds the Education portfolio, during an inspection at Rajkiya Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, found that poor quality mid-day meal was being served to the children and directed the principal to ensure healthy meal is given to the students, a government official said.
He warned that action will be taken against schools which fail to meet guidelines set under the mid day meal scheme.
Sisodia also said that the government will soon take "big steps" to improve the quality and provide nutritious food to children.
During an inspection earlier this week, a principal of a government school was suspended and a case registered with anti-corruption branch (ACB) against him after Sisodia found huge irregularities in financial transactions of the institution during a surprise inspection.
The incident came to light after Sisodia conducted a surprise visit at Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya at the President's Estate in central Delhi.
