SIT sends questionnaire to Secretary Pollution Board
Press Trust of India Shimla The SIT probing outbreak of jaundice in Shimla has sent questionnaires to Secretary, Pollution Control Board and Commissioner, Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) seeking information aboutthe preventive actions and also whether the guidelines for monitoring quality of water, especially at Sewerage Treatment Plants(STP) were adhered to.
The SIT has so far arrested five persons including the contractor of Sewerage treatment plant and also questioned the Chief engineer and Superintending Engineer (IPH) and dozen pump operators.
The SIT yesterday questioned the Junior Engineer (Lifting) and another JE(Lifting), who was avoiding the SIT also cooperate with the probe today, SP, Shimla, DW Negi said.
There has been decline in jaundice cases in Shimla which have come down by 15 to 20 cases per day but the spread of the disease to adjoining districts has prompted the government to declare jaundice alert.
The SIT is likely to question some senior officers of concerned departments, responsible for maintaining quality of water.
