The SIT will conduct an in-depth probe into the incident of a Dalit youth, Rajat, whose family alleged that he was burnt to death by a former village head and his family members over some old rivalry in Daulatpur village of Haryana's Yamunanagar on Tuesday, said ADGP (Law and Order) Mohammad Akil.
Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. Police during the probe found the youth's brother had called up SHO of Police Station Radaur and informed him that he was drunk and behaving in a rowdy manner, he said.
"However, when the police team reached the spot, they found Rajat lying in a lane in a badly-burnt condition. The youth's father told police that none came forward to help them take him to hospital," the ADGP said.
The police personnel then rushed the youth to General Hospital, Yamunanagar.
Akil said a case has been registered against a former sarpanch Ram Swarup, his wife Mukhtayri Devi, their three sons -- Chander Bhan, Vindo Kumar and Gopal -- and Ram Swarup's brother Tara Chand, under relevant sections of the IPC.
