No fresh incidents were reported and the curfew imposed till 5 am today was not extended, official sources said.
As per the instructions of Dhubri district administration, 76 durga idols would be immersed in the Brahmaputra amidst tight security by 5 pm today, the sources said.
Life was normal in the town today after a bandh called yesterday by the Dhubri Sarvajanik Durga Puja Sammanway Samiti against the stabbing of a puja mandap decorator on Tuesday.
The administration's alleged failure to nab the culprits responsible for the attack saw protesters clashing with police, who fired in the air to disperse them.
Police had fired around eight rounds in the air last evening to disperse people who had gathered at a puja mandap at Balu Char area in violation of the curfew imposed during the day.
During the ensuing commotion, two persons sustained minor injuries.
