District Magistrate of riot-hit Muzaffarnagar today said there was no fresh incident of communal violence in the district, and accused a section of media of linking "normal crime incidents with communal tension."
A section of media today reported that some people hailing from adjoining districts/states have been coming to Muzaffarnagar on two vehicles and running away after killing people to avenge the losses suffered during the recent communal clashes.
"The two incidents being cited took place on September 26 and 27, in which a truck driver and a bike rider were looted and killed. Both the victims belonged to different communities," DM Kaushalraj Sharma told PTI over phone.
"With regard to these two incidents, investigations are on to ascertain as to who the culprits were," he said.
"A section of media is creating sensation by reporting that some people on two vehicles have been coming to the district from outside and killing people..... This could create communal tension," the DM said.
A senior police officer in Lucknow said the new incidents were related to either minor dispute or highway robbery and had no connection with communal tension.
Sharma said that normalcy has returned to the district.
"There is complete communal harmony in the district and concerted efforts are on to further normalise the situation," the DM said.
Help of the intelligence unit was also being taken in this regard, he said.
