Six arrested, 1,483 cartons of smuggled liquor seized in UP

Six persons have been arrested and 1,483 cartons of liquor worth Rs one crore, being smuggled from Haryana, were recovered in separate cases from three different areas here, police said today.
Two bootleggers, Sheelu and Chaman, were arrested and 393 cartons of liquor seized from a truck which was stopped this morning for checking on Bisokhar Road, SHO Modi Nagar Deepak Sharma said.
In another case, acting on a tip-off, a truck was intercepted yesterday at UP gate police check post and 890 cartons of liquor were seized from it and two bootleggers, Ravindra and Madan Pal arrested, SHO of Indira Puram police station Gorakh Nath Yadav said.
SHO of Murad Nagar police station Ummed Yadav said, on Tuesday, two bootleggers - Sanjeet and Rajbeer - were arrested and 200 cartons of liquor were confiscated.
In all the three cases, the liquor was being smuggled from Haryana, the police officials said, adding the vehicles were impounded and investigation was underway.
