Six arrested in gold loot case

Police today claimed to have solved within 24 hours the case of daylight robbery at an office of a finance company here, with the arrest of six persons, including two women employees and one ex-employee, and recovered the 11 kg of gold worth Rs 3.5 crore which was stolen.
In a press conference held here today, IG (Patiala zone), Paramjit Singh Gill said six persons have been arrested in connection with the loot which took place at Muthoot Fincorp yesterday at Triupuri here, one of the busiest markets in the city.
Gill said gold jewellry weighing 11.26 kg worth Rs 3.5 crore and Rs 2.51 lakh in cash have also been recovered.
The accused, all residents of Patiala, have been identified as - prime accused and former employee of the company, Gaurav Singla, Sukhwinder Singh, an astrologer, Robin Rawal, former journalist, Gurpreet Singh and two women employees of the company, Venus Sharma and Navneet Kaur.
Police also recovered a motorcycle, a scooter and .32 bore pistol along with three cartridges used in the crime, Gill said, adding police took clue about the robbers form CCTV footages and records of former employees of the company to crack the case.
Prime accused Gaurav, a property dealer by profession, had planned to rob the company where he was earlier employed as he was facing huge debt and he involved Venus and Navneet and his three other friends in the plan, the IG said.
Armed with pistol, four accused barged into the office of the company last evening, tied three employees and locked them in a washroom before committing the crime, he said.
The accused had decided to divide the booty among themselves after the robbery.
