Six Chinese nationals, including three women, were today arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle six kilogram of gold, worth Rs 1.85 crore into India, Custom officials said.
The sleuths of the Air Intelligence Unit of the Mumbai Customs intercepted six Chinese passengers on their arrival at the international airport here, a senior official said.
While three of them arrived from Hong Kong, the rest arrived from China, he said.
"The search of these six passengers (three men and three women) resulted in recovery of crude gold chains with pendant depicting lord Buddha, buckles made of crude gold attached to the leather belt worn around their waist and crude rectangular gold plate depicting Tibetan deities," the official said.
