Six cops die as their jeep hits roadside tree

Six Punjab Police personnel, including four constables, were killed and 11 injured when a jeep in which they were travelling rammed into a roadside tree here today, police said.
The jeep was carrying 17 police personnel when the accident happened near village Lohari, 10-km from here, they said.
The jeep dashed against the roadside tree after its driver lost control of the vehicle, police said.
Earlier, they said the accident happened when a truck hit the jeep near village Lohari.
The dead were a head constable, four constables, one of them a woman, and a home guard, police said.
Woman constable Raj Kaur, aged 20, who died in the mishap, hailed from village Panjkoha in Fatehgarh Sahib.
All of them were posted at Khamano Police Station and were on their way to attend a police parade at Mohadian here, police said.

Three of the injured were referred to PGI, Chandigarh, for treatment.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed shock over the tragic death of the police personnel.
The Chief Minister sanctioned ex gratia amount of Rs two lakh to each bereaved family and Rs 25,000 for the seriously injured.
He also directed the concerned authorities to provide immediate medical treatment to the injured.
