Six heading for Pushkaram killed, 10 hurt in road mishap

Six persons of a family heading for the ongoing 'Godavari Pushkaram' were killed and 10 other sustained injuries when their van rammed into a tree on a village outskirts near here this morning, police said.
The accident occurred at around 6.30 AM on the outskirts of Eklaspur village under Manthani police station limits, about 70 kms from here, when the pilgrims from Wanaparthi in Mahabubnagar district were on their way to take a holy dip in Godavari river at Kaleshwaram as a part of the Pushkaram festival, Circle Inspector Prabhakar said.
The speeding vehicle rammed into a tree near the village killing six persons on the spot, including a woman and two children aged one and four, he said.
The ten seriously injured people were admitted to a hospital in Karimnagar, police said.
The bodies, yet to be identified, have been sent for postmortem to government hospital at Manthani, they added.
