The paediatric head of the unit has termed the deaths as "natural", saying they were suffering from different inborn complicated ailments.
However, an inquiry by the board has been ordered into the matter.
Six infants died late on Sunday night and Monday morning, said Dr ML Bairwa, HOD, Paediatric, Jay Kay Lon hospital.
Among the six infants, twin babies, one was male other female died on Sunday late night. They were "extremely premature" and "hardly" had survival possibilities, he said, adding the third infant baby was also very premature.

The fifth died infant baby was syringe birth with "fetus disperse" but survived only for 24 hours despite continuous efforts of revival, he said, adding the sixth deceased infant baby was a normal delivery "but did not cry at birth and failed attempts to revive the baby were made.
Bairwa denied charges of lack of medical staff or equipment running out of function in the unit.
When contacted, Superintend of Jay Kay Lon, RK Gulati said an inquiry by a board into the deaths of the infants has been ordered and a factual report has also been sought from the HOD.
