Six killed in Pak police operation in Karachi

Police today shot dead at least six alleged memebers of a gang accused of kidnappings, loot and rape during a search operation in a notorious area of Pakistan's commercial capital.
Rao Anwar, SSP Malir town, said the persons were part of a 16-member gang and were killed during a search operation in the Sohrab Goth area, notorous for harboring militants and criminals, on the outskirts of Karachi.
Anwar said the police carried out a search in the area after receiving complaints about the presence of members of the gang. When confronted, the gang members resorted to heavy firing.
During the exchange of fire six of their men were killed while some managed to escape, he said.
The gang is accused of hijacking several cars and passenger buses coming into Karachi and take it to their hideout close to Sohrab Goth.
They used to loot and kidnap high-value targets, he said.
