National Highway Authority of India member Finance Satish Chandra today said construction work in front of Jalandhar cantt and Phagwara has been delinked from the schedule due to shifting of Army structure, including its boundary wall in Jalandhar and the increase in the length of elevation portion of the flyover in Phagwara.
This stretch would now be completed by May 2016, Chandra said. Most of the construction work from Jalandhar to Phagwara has been completed, he further said.
The contractor wants to adopt new technology and approval would be given soon and this stretch would be completed by March 2016.
Speaking about the national highways network in Punjab, Chandra said six-laning of Chandigarh-Kharar section would be completed within two-and-a-half years as tenders would be invited in August and work would be awarded by the end of September.

On the four-laning of Ropar-Phagwara section, Chandra said road has been given to NHAI in February this year and the detailed project is under preparation and the work would be allotted by the end of November.
Meanwhile, NHAI is repairing the road at the cost of Rs 17 crores.
On elevated corridor from Samrala chowk to PAU university within Ludhiana, Chandra said this portion was handed over to NHAI in February and work would be awarded by November.
He disclosed that seven major flyovers would be constructed on this by-pass from Amritsar-Jalandhar upto Attari border.
The work on Ludhiana-Talwandi section which was suspended by the concessionaire has been restarted and would be completed by May 2016.
Chandra said work on Dera Bassi flyover at the cost of Rs 19 crores would be completed by October 2016 and construction of most of the National highways in Punjab would by 2016.
