Six members of gang engaged in looting oil tankers arrested

A gang engaged in looting tankers carrying petroleum products was busted with the arrest of six of its members from Jagannathpur sub-division in the adjoining West Singhbhum district today, a senior police officer said.
Acting on the call details procured from a mobile phone of an accused, district police forces swung into action and arrested six persons identified as Sona Ram, Ajay Gope, Shyam, Chintu, Kajal and Babu, said the sub-divisional police officer (Jagannathpur), Bertinus Kullu.
One member of the gang manged to flee, he said.
The gang had looted a 200 litres of diesel from a tanker of oil major Indian Oil Company near Tonto Talaburu on Jhinkpani-Hatgamariah road on July 25 and sold it off in the open market, the SDPO said.
The gang also succeeded in looting another tanker on Jaitgarh and Hatgamariah road five days later, but the tanker got stuck in a muddy road near a railway crossing, he said.
The mobile phone of one of the accused dropped from his pocket but went unnoticed by the miscreants, Kullu said adding the police procured the call details from the mobile and arrested six members of the gang.
The Police have also confiscated a SUV used in committing the crime, the SDPO added.
