Six persons arrested for smuggling Ginseng

Six persons, including three women, were arrested for illegal transportation of huge quantity of species of Ginseng and Pangolin scales in Kohima, a police official said here today.
Personnel of Khuzama Police Station while conducting Motor Vehicle Checking along Chakhabama road on the outskirts of the state capital yesterday intercepted three vehicles and recovered 502 Kgs of Paris Cautifolia (species of ginseng) and 10,008 Kgs of Pangolin scales which is an endangered species, said PRO of Kohima Police, Atu Zumvu.
He said that 502 kgs of Paris Cautifolia is worth Rs 25 lakhs while 10008 kgs of Pangolin scales amounts to Rs 15 lakhs in the International market.
All the six arrested hailing from Tadubi village of Manipur were trying to smuggle the banned substances in three vehicles, but were intercepted by alert personnel of the Khuzama PS, Zumvu said.
In this connection a regular case under Indian Forest Act and Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972 has been registered at Khuzama Police Station under Kohima district to conduct further investigation, police added.
