Six suspected arms smugglers held

Six persons, suspected to be smugglers of firearms, were arrested near Naroda Patiya area here and five weapons with live cartridges recovered from them, a senior Crime Branch officer said today.
"Based on a tip-off, the six persons were arrested during the night patrolling near the stretch leading to Naroda Patiya crossroads from Krishna Nagar," Crime Branch Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) A K Sharma told reporters here.
He said that police seized two desi kattas (country-made guns) and three revolvers from the six who had many cases, including smuggling of firearms, registered against them.
"While four of the six persons belonged to Etawah in Uttar Pradesh, one from Muzzafarpur district in Bihar and the other one from Kutch district of Gujarat," Sharma said.
They are identified as Dharmendrasinh Rajput (38), Shivvir Singh (24), Abdullah Sikandar (33), Raghvendra Singh (24), Vikas Singh and Ajay Singh (28).
The accused came to the city to attend a court hearing in connection with a case in which they are involved, police said.
Sharma said that Rajput has cases of murder, extortion, loot, illegal possession of weapons among others registered against him in the past and was externed from Ahmedabad city, Mehsana, Kheda, Nadiad districts.
More arrests are likely in this connection, police said.
