Six women among 45 civilians to trek Siachen

A group of 45 people including six women were flagged from Leh today for a trekking expedition to the Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world.
"The Indian Army deployed in Siachen Glacier- the highest battlefield in the world, in its pursuit to encourage the spirit of adventure and physical fitness, flagged off the Siachen Glacier Trek today", a defence spokesman here said.
The trekking expedition was flagged off in a ceremony by GOC 14 Corps from Leh.
The trek was preceded by kitting, initial training and acclimatization for seven days, he said.
"The participants of the trekking expedition are volunteers from various walks of life including Government officials, next of kin of soldiers and cadets of Royal Indian Military College (RIMC) and Rashtriya Military School (RMS)" he said.
This trek will go a long way towards enhancement of mountaineering skills in civilians ably honed by the Indian Army, the spokesman added.
