Six women, all foreign nationals escaped from a state protective home here after allegedly attacking the staff and security personnel including a female police constable, police said today.
The incident took place last evening around 8 PM when nine women managed to overpower a lady escort, who had gone to call them for dinner, and escaped from the state shelter, after attacking a constable on duty, Old Goa Police inspector Krishna P Sinari told PTI.
However, three of them were apprehended and brought back, he said.
The inmates snatched the keys from the escort and opened the main door of the shelter. They then attacked the lady constable on duty before disappearing into the dark.
The group which escaped comprises four Bangladeshis, a Turkish and a Nepali national.
"All the six women were rescued from the commercial sex trade. All are major," Superintendent of protective home Pramila Fernandes said.
Police have launched a major search operation to track down these women, who are important witnesses in various cases booked under Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act by Goa Police and Crime branch.
