A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Tharet village, around 40 kms from the district headquarters, in the wee hours today, police said.
The accused, Motilal Ahirwar (25), was arrested for the alleged sexual assault, police said.
"The victim was in the village to attend a marriage function, where she stayed overnight with her parents," Tharet police station inspector Sanjay Kirar said.
"In the wee hours, Ahirwar, who was also invited to the wedding, took the girl to a government school located near the marriage venue. When her parents and relatives failed to find her, they launched a search," Kirar said.
During their search, they came to the school and finally found that she was being sexually assaulted by the accused inside the toilet.
The accused, who hails from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, was caught by the girl's parents and kin on the spot. They severely thrashed him and later handed him over to the police.
The accused has been booked under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), the inspector said.
