Bhiwani (42 C), Hisar (42 C), Narnaul (42.5 C) were among the places in Haryana where the maximum temperature crossed the 40 deg Celsius mark while Amritsar (40 C) in Punjab also registered an above normal high, the MeT office said here.
Ambala registered a maximum of 37.9 deg C while Karnal's high settled at 38 C.
Sultry weather prevailed in Chandigarh, where the high settled at 37.4 deg C.
Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab recorded above normal maximums of 38.8 deg C and 38.6 deg Celsius respectively.
The MeT forecast light to moderate rains or thunder showers may occur at isolated places in the two states during the next two days.
