For infrastructure improvement, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered installation of four high mast lamps and two 75 KVA diesel generators at the Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore at a cost of 1.56 crore, to facilitate day and night matches, a state government release said.
While 50 per cent of the cost would be borne by the state government, the balance would be spent from the Sports Developemnt Authority funds, it said.
She also ordered Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority to organise a state-level Chief Minister's Cup for badminton, akin to the other tournaments organised by the authority, and sanctioned Rs 10 lakh towards it.
In addition to existing 139 sports trainers in the state, the chief minister ordered creation of 80 more trainer positions, who would be appointed at a consolidated pay of Rs 8,000 per month. It would cost the exchequer Rs 76.80 lakh annually, it said.
The chief minister also sanctioned Rs two crore for opening swimming pools of international standards - one each in Namakkal and Tiruvallur at a cost of Rs one crore, it said.
