Slight relief from cold as minimum temperature rise in Kashmir

The minimum temperature in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region rose providing slight relief to the residents from the cold conditions even as the MeT Department has predicted widespread rains or snow over the next few days.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 1.8 degrees Celsius, as against the previous night's 1.1 degrees Celsius, an official of the MeT Department here said.
Mercury in Qazigund - the gateway town to Kashmir Valley - increased by almost two degrees to settle at a low of 0.6 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous night's minus 1.2 degrees Celsius.
The mercury in Pahalgam resort, which serves as base camp during annual Amarnath yatra, registered a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, as against minus 2.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, the official said.
The night temperature in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg went up by over a degree to record a low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius as against the previous night's minus 6.6 degrees Celsius.
The mercury in Kokernag, in south Kashmir, increased by over two degrees to settle at a low of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius last night as compared to minus 2.6 degree Celsius the previous night.
Kupwara town, in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, almost same as minus 0.5 degrees Celsius the previous night.

The minimum in Leh town, in Ladakh region, settled at minus 10 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous night's minus 10.9 degrees Celsius.
Nearby Kargil town recorded a low of minus 12.2 degrees Celsius, up by over a degree from the previous night's minus 13.6 degrees Celsius.
The MeT Department has predicted light rain or snowfall at isolated places in the state over the next 24 hours and said there is a possibility of widespread rain or snow in the state during the next few days.
