Small newspapers should also get govt ads: Raj edu minister
Press Trust of India Jaipur Rajasthan Education Minister BK Sharma today said that small newspapers should also be given government advertisements to ensure they remained viable and were able to sustain their enterprise.
"Small and medium newspaper (S&MN) industry is passing through a serious financial crisis due to big newspapers which are publishing scores of editions," Sharma said at the silver jubilee celebrations of local daily 'Sandhya Jyoti Darpan' here.
S&MN get few government and private ads, and that too only on certain occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day, he said.
Sharma said that government ads issued at the district and panchayat levels, tender notifications included, should be given to these papers.
Others present on the occasion were Jaipur Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal, Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi, BJP vice-president Arun Chaturvedi, President of All-India Small and Medium Newspaper Federation (New Delhi) Gurinder Singh and BM Sharma, the newspaper's founder editor.
