Small sugar remains weak on sliding demand, higher supply

Small sugar prices continued to rule weak at the Vashi wholesale market here today on the back of sluggish demand from bulk consumers amid higher carry- forward stocks.
Meanwhile, medium sugar variety ended mixed owing to alternate bouts of buying and selling.
Ample supplies due to surplus production coupled with poor exports have depressed prices, offsetting domestic demand, a trader commented.
Small sugar (S-30) moved down by Rs 7 per quintal to Rs 2,725/2,865 from Thursday's close of Rs 2,732/2,865.
Medium sugar (M-30) was quoted at Rs 2,862/2,992 per quintal as against Rs 2,822/3,011 previously.
Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:
Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,725/2,865 (Rs 2,732/2,865.
Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,862/2,992 (Rs 2,822/3,011).
