The smallest heart-therapy device called implantable cardioverter defibrillator to treat heart rate disorders (arrhythmias), has been implanted in two patients for the first time.
The device was implanted on a male patient from Odisha and on another from Tripura suffering from ventricular tachycardia and post myocardial infarction, which relate to the rhythm of the organ, sources at the Apollo Gleneagles Heart Institute said today.
The sources said the ICD, produced by a US company, was a chest implant to treat potentially lethal, abnormally fast heart rhythms.
They said the ICD offered unique design advancements that provided arrhythmia patients improved comfort, while offering optimal therapy through safety features.
