Lawyers of the petitioners and respondents in all courts of the district may soon get SMS alerts regarding status of the pleas filed, on their mobile phones through new service called Case Information System (CIS).
In a circular, Thane District Courts Bar Association recently asked its members to submit their mobile numbers to the respective courts.
According to sources, the system is likely to start within the next two months.
"It is a hand to hand service where advocate of the petitioner will receive SMS alerts regarding the status of the petition filed by him/her, so that they can forward it to the client. The system will decrease dependency on assistants, which earlier, needed follow-up," said one of the members of Thane district courts Bar Association.
The system will be of great help to the lawyers and their clients, where they can know whether petition filed has been accepted or rejected, or if there is any shortcoming in the petition, which was earlier done after checking files manually, he added.
