Gold weighing 11.15 kg and worth Rs 3.32 crore, allegedly smuggled into the country from Sri Lanka was seized and three people arrested in this connection, DRI officials said today.

Acting on a tip, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials intercepted a bus proceeding towards Madurai from Ramanathapuram, yesterday and recovered the gold concealed in the baggages belonging to three passengers.

During interrogation, the trio confessed that the gold was smuggled into India by sea from the island nation and they were transporting it to Madurai "for a monetary consideration."
