"On November 12, an inspection team of the department on night patrolling intercepted two mini trucks at Badarpur Border, which were found to be loaded with cartons of imported cigarettes. Investigation so far has revealed that the cigarettes were imported illegally in the country," the Commissioner, Trade and Taxes, SS Yadav, said.
The cigarettes loaded in the trucks were of the Indonesian Brand 'Gudang Garam International'.
"As per preliminary estimates, the approximate value of these cigarettes is above Rs 50 lakhs," he said.
Trade and Taxes department is taking all necessary steps to facilitate trade in Delhi, while taking strict action against the tax evaders, he added.
