A Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team today arrested a smuggler with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with face value of Rs ten lakh from a bus on Motihari-Muzaffarpur road under Mehsi police station area in Bihar's East Champaran district.
Acting on a tip off, the DRI sleuths intercepted a bus near Mehsi village and nabbed the smuggler, identified as Munna Alam (25), with the haul of fake currency notes in denomination of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 respectively, DRI officials said.
The accused had arrived at Patna with the consignment of fake currency notes by a train from Malda in West Bengal and was travelling by a private bus for Bettiah in West Champaran district, they said.
A native of Jagdishpur Sekhauna village under the Jagdishpur police station area in West Champaran district, Alam, confessed during interrogation that he worked for a gang involved in smuggling counterfeit currency notes.
The gang's kingpin resides in Nepal, the officials said.
Alam further told the interrogators he had smuggled in fake currency notes on 15-20 occasions during the past two months, they said.
The DRI sleuths have earlier on June 14 last seized a haul of FICN with face value of Rs 12.5 lakh from a village in East Champaran district and arrested three smugglers in this connection.
