The festivities started with 'mangal arti' at 4.30 am, followed by a dance programme 'Geet Govindam' by students of Bhaktivedanta National School at the temple, which is 6 km away from the main Chandrodaya temple of Mayapur, a release issued by the ISKCON said.
The deities were taken to the 'snan vedi' (bathing altar) where the bathing ceremony took place amid chanting of Vedic Mantras by priests.
In the evening the 'abishek' of Lord Jagannath along with his siblings was performed at Prabhupad Ghat on the banks of Ganga river.
According to Skanda Purana when King Indradyumna had installed the wooden deities in Puri this bathing ceremony was arranged and this day is considered to be the divine appearance day of Lord Jagannath.
The 'Snan Yatra' is also simultaneously held in Puri on the full moon day in the month of 'Jyestha' every year. And as a part of his pastime (leela), Lord Jagannath falls sick after the bathing festival and the doors will remain closed till Rath Yatra, which will be celebrated on June 25 this year.
