Snowfall, rain continue in upper reaches of Kashmir

The higher reaches of Kashmir valley continued to receive snowfall for second day while plains were lashed by rains, bringing an early winter chill.
Many places in upper reaches of Kashmir, including the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north, continued to receive snowfall for the second day, official said here.
They said more than two inches of snow had accumulated in Gulmarg resort till 5.30 pm.
Snowfall was witnessed in higher reaches of Shopian including Mughal Road, Sonamarg, Amarnath Cave, Z-Gali, Sadhna Top and Razdaan Pass, they said.
Most of the plains in Kashmir, including summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by rains for the second day.
While Srinagar recorded a rainfall of 4.7 mm, Kupwara, in north Kashmir, received 15.1 mm of rains, the officials said.

They said Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir received 13.8 mm of rains, while Gulmarg recorded 19.6 mm of rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has forecast more rains tomorrow.
The MET Department said a western disturbance hit the state yesterday and is likely to affect the state till October 27.
"Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to heavy rain or thundershower and snowfall over higher reaches will occur at widespread places in Kashmir and Jammu regions and at many places in Ladakh particularly Kargil district," the officials said.
They warned the weather conditions may trigger landslide and blockage of road in vulnerable areas of the state particularly along Srinagar-Jammu, Srinagar-Leh and Leh-Manali highways.
